Four AIDS deaths every hour in the Arab States
The number of victims of diseases caused by HIV, "AIDS" in the Arab countries to 35 thousand people a year by 96 deaths per day, with four cases each hour, making the epidemic one of the worst infectious diseases in the modern history of the region.
This is referred to Firas Gharaibeh, Resident Representative of UNDP acting in Bahrain, where the number of patients in Bahrain up to 380 cases in 2010.
He stressed Gharaibeh on the role of religious figures in dealing with people living with HIV in Bahrain, said that the level of the world were living with AIDS, about 34 million people, wounded 17 per cent since 2001, which means the continued spread of the disease despite the decline in the number of deaths resulting from it to provide drug treatment and ways to reduce it.
The number of deaths resulting from it amounted to about 1.8 million in 2010 worldwide, less than the figure for 2000 and $ 2.2 million victims, fell 68 per cent of them in sub-Saharan African countries, while the rest of the cases were distributed to the rest of the world.
He also announced recently that the number of new HIV infections and deaths from this disease have fallen by 20 per cent, due to an increase community awareness of its dangers and the need for prevention.
Note that the disease was detected on the fifth of June 1981 it was reported the first case of AIDS, to begin after a few years of fight against this dangerous disease, and this process gradually gained international attention, becoming the focus of the Organization of the United Nations.
